The Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Clinical Counsellor to join our Child Family Trauma Informed Health & Wellness Supports (CFTI) team. This role provides advanced counselling services to Children, Youth & Families impacted by the First Nations Child Family & Jordan’s Principle Settlement Claims Processes, rooted in an Indigenous worldview and trauma-informed practices.
What You’ll Do
  • Provide mental wellness counselling (individual, group, and family sessions) for trauma, crisis, and intergenerational healing.
  • Deliver crisis intervention during community-based critical incidents.
  • Conduct assessments and screenings for suicide risk and mental health concerns.
  • Collaborate with First Nations communities, local agencies, and IRSSS program teams.
  • Refer clients to traditional healers, culturally relevant resources, and external services.
  • Advocate for improved access to mental wellness services and address systemic barriers.
  • Integrate cultural ceremony, traditions, and customs into counselling practices.
What We’re Looking For
  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or Social Work (with counselling experience).
  • Registration with BCACC or Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in trauma, depression, and/or anxiety counselling.
  • Training in therapeutic modalities (e.g., EMDR, SE, IFS, Motivational Interviewing).
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples, LGBTQ2S+, BIPOC communities.
  • Strong communication, decision-making, and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, culturally sensitive practices and traditional healing.
  • Assets
  • Indigenous-focused therapy training (e.g., IFOT).
  • Knowledge of cultural protocols and healing practices.
  • Experience in rural and remote communities.

What We Offer
💰 Salary: Starting at $90,000.00-$110,000.00 - based on experience
