Senior Marketing Communication Lead (SMCL)
Job Summary:
The Senior Marketing Communications Lead plays a key leadership role within the IRSSS Communications department, bridging the gap between management and the Junior Brand Specialist. The role requires the SMCL to be versatile, self-driven professional with exceptional graphic design capabilities, outstanding organizational skills, and a critically strategic thinker.
The SMCL will be responsible for managing high-level design and branding initiatives, content development, marketing workflows, campaign execution, and ensuring quality control across all communication materials. As a senior team member, you will also provide mentorship, support department planning, and assist in shaping the public-facing voice and visual identity of IRSSS. The role of the SMCL is demanding and rewarding role with high capacity to juggle diverse tasks, meeting tight deadlines, and delivering results in a highly collaborative hybrid working environment.
KEY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning + Project Management
1. Collaborate with the Communications Manager to develop and execute strategic marketing plans and content calendars.
2. Lead medium-scale marketing projects and multi-channel campaigns.
3. Manage timelines, priorities, and workflows to ensure seamless execution across design, web, print, and digital platforms.
4. Provide regular updates and performance reports to department leadership.
Design + Brand Stewardship
5. Serve as the department’s lead graphic designer and visual storyteller.
6. Develop high-quality visual content, including reports, brochures, signage, web and social graphics, and presentations.
7. Ensure consistent application of brand identity, tone, and messaging across all internal and external materials.
8. Support junior staff and other departments with design requests while maintaining brand quality.
Content Development + Oversight
9. Draft, review, and edit compelling content across platforms: newsletters, web, blog posts, social media, scripts, and internal communications.
10. Translate complex ideas into accessible and audience-appropriate formats.
11. Ensure editorial accuracy, clarity, and cultural sensitivity.
Digital + Social Media Strategy
12. Support community engagement and monitor trends across digital channels.
13. Guide and support junior staff in content scheduling, moderation, and engagement analytics.
14. Assist with channel optimization strategies and audience targeting.
Collaboration + Cross-Departmental Support
15. Act as a liaison between MarCom and internal departments, ensuring marketing communications needs are met in a timely and professional manner.
16. Provide creative leadership in the development of fundraising, awareness, and event materials.
17. Represent the MarCom team in meetings as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ATTRIBUTES
- Creative + Analytical: Strong visual design skills and the ability to interpret data to inform content and campaign decisions.
- Highly Organized: Can manage multiple tasks and timelines without missing details.
- Goaal-Oriented: Delivers high-quality work on time with minimal supervision.
- Strong Communicator: Polished writing and interpersonal skills; ability to translate feedback into clear action.
- Team Player: Supports team cohesion, motivates others, and is open to collaborative feedback.
- Culturally Competent: Demonstrates respect and understanding of Indigenous cultures, protocols, and communities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma or degree in communications, marketing, design, or related field—or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- 3+ years of experience in a mid- to senior-level communications or design role.
- Proven track record of managing marketing campaigns and leading content production.
- Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); Figma and Canva experience is a bonus.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience managing creative workflows, brand compliance, and asset libraries.
- Familiarity with content/asset management systems, email marketing platforms, and social scheduling tools.
- Previous work in Indigenous organizations or non-profit sectors is a strong asset.
- Basic video editing and photography experience is a strong asset.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain attention to detail while managing multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with discretion.
- Have a positive and professional attitude and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to establish rapport with people of all educational and occupational backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain a healthy working relationship with staff, community representatives/members and representatives of other organizations. Including collaboration with other IRSSS programs and staff as required.
- Maintain the confidentiality guidelines of all records, materials and communications concerning clients, staff and IRSSS.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Term: Full-time Position
Office Locations: Vancouver Office
Salary: $70,000.00- $75,000.00 to start and dependent on experience.
Benefits: Annual Leave, Sick Leave, Wellness Days; after 90 days - Employer paid benefits plan and GIC/RSP matched savings.
Status: Hybrid position – combination of office and remote work to right candidate

Compensation
