Wellness Director


The Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS) is seeking a compassionate, grounded, and experienced leader to join our team as an Wellness Director. This vital leadership role supports the delivery of trauma-informed, culturally safe wellness programs for Indigenous communities across British Columbia.
Report to the Executive Director, the Wellness Director provides strategic and operational leadership for all wellness and program services, ensuring culturally safe, trauma-informed, and Survivor-centered delivery across the organization. This role integrates program development, service delivery, clinical oversight, and people leadership to advance holistic wellness outcomes for both clients and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and implementation of holistic, trauma-informed wellness programs rooted in cultural safety and Indigenous knowledge systems
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to multidisciplinary wellness teams, ensuring staff wellbeing and ethical practice standards
  • Oversee program quality, risk management, and compliance with applicable legislation and professional standards
  • Collaborate with leadership, communities, and partners to strengthen service delivery and accessibility
  • Monitor program performance, including data, outcomes, and reporting to senior leadership and governance bodies
  • Support a healing-centred organizational culture that prioritizes relational accountability, respect, and safety

What We’re Looking For:
  • Advanced education in social work, psychology, counselling, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Proven leadership experience in wellness, mental health, or community-based services
  • Strong knowledge of governance and program management
  • Proven ability to lead teams with compassion, integrity, and accountability
  • Deep proven understanding of trauma-informed practice, cultural safety, and intergenerational impacts of residential schools
  • Demonstrated personal growth, balance, and the ability to support others from a place of stability and professionalism
  • Strong emotional intelligence, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in high-impact, emotionally sensitive environments with resilience and care
  • Commitment to Indigenous values, cultural humility, and community-centered practice

Term: Full-Time Term Position
Location: Vancouver – Vancouver Public Library
Salary: $125,000.00 to $145,000.00 to start and will be dependent on proven skills and experiences
Benefits: Annual Leave, Sick Leave, Cultural Days, Wellness Days, after 90 days - Employer paid benefits plan and GIA matched savings
Status: Minimum 60% in office requirement
